Calgary Heads to China for First Real Estate Focused Trade Mission
Mission aims to attract inward investment and invite people to Be Part of the Energy in Calgary.
Calgary Economic Development will lead a delegation of 20 Calgary companies to Hong Kong and Beijing, June 24-28, 2012. The investment focused mission is expected to build on the relationships formed on the 2011 China mission, led by Calgary Mayor Nenshi, and promote the significant investment opportunity that exists in Calgary and Alberta.
Specifically, the focus of the mission is on oil and gas and real estate, aimed at trying to build awareness of Calgary as a global energy centre. The mission hopes to create opportunities for Alberta oil and gas and real estate companies to seek investment from private and institutional investors from Hong Kong and mainland China.
“China continues to play a major role in the global economy and certainly has had an impact in Alberta, as evidenced by the $20 billion of recent investment from Asia into shale gas and oil sands development,” said John Hankins, Vice-President, Investment and Trade Development, Calgary Economic Development.
“In addition to promoting the energy-related investment opportunities in Alberta, we want to highlight the developments on the real estate side. Calgary was recently ranked number one among 33 leading cities by the IPD Property Index for ‘best return on investment’. This is the story we are coming to China to tell,” added Hankins.
“Sunshine Oilsands has directly benefitted from Hong Kong, China and SE Asia investors,” said John Zahary, President & CEO, Sunshine Oilsands Ltd and mission delegate. “The 2012 Calgary-China investment symposium provides a unique opportunity for investors from Hong Kong and mainland China to connect directly with Calgary oil and gas and real estate companies currently seeking investment to their companies’ in one of the world’s leading economies.”
After leaving Hong Kong, the Calgary delegation will head to Beijing for Euromoney’s inaugural Canada – ChinaInvestors Forum. Alberta Premier Alison Redford will be providing a keynote address at the forum. This two-day forum will connect Canadian opportunities with a diverse and extensive group of direct and indirect investors fromChina and the surrounding region. The forum will feature an in-depth examination of the full spectrum of investment and business opportunities in Canada, the practicalities of connecting them with Chinese investment, and the criteria for Chinese investors to deploy capital into the country.
